So what is Midjourney? It's one of a few available programs that allows the user to create art with the assistance of artificial intelligence. Think of it like this, you're the storywriter and the AI paints the storyboard.
Okay, how do I get it? Midjourney is currently in beta, whether they will actually create a stand-alone program or not is up in the air right now. However, you can access the creation tool through the free chat program Discord. 1. Create a free Discord account. 2. Then visit http://midjourney.com and click "Join the Beta" this will open your Discord app. As of right now Mijourney operates their servers through Discord. All the artwork you create will be displayed on either the massive public server, or through the Midjourney bot through direct message for paid accounts.
And now what?! It's a bit overwhelming at first, millions of creators are crafting images all at once nonstop. It will be a little difficult to find your own art on a free account. Non-members are given 25 free creations, subscribers will have their own private bot which will reduce the headache of trying to find your own results.
But, how do I start producing my own artwork? Everything is started by the command prompt, you craft one by typing /imagine prompt
Then you add your own text after the prompt. You'll see a lot of suggestions by viewing the previous creators by results. For instance here is the most simple prompt: /imagine prompt beautiful day at the beach /imagine prompt smiling woman wearing sunglasses
Is that it?! Well, sorta. You will never get exactly what you see in your head. But, you can give descriptions to modify your work, leading the AI to craft work closer to your vision. There are thousands of how-to videos on youtube. But you can get a better idea of the potential by viewing other creator's contributions here: https://www.midjourney.com/showcase/recent/
Is a paid membership worth it? Personally, I can say it is worth becoming a member. After you use up your first 25 free creations, you will be alerted that you can now become a member. I started off with the $30usd membership and have downgraded to the $10usd a month membership. I will more than likely upgrade when I have more time to create, but it's easy to bounce between tiers -- providing you pay monthly.
=) Give it a try, you'll really find it to be a great hobby. Plus you can use the mobile Discord app and create art on the go!
